Welcome to the build and maintenance hub for our 2000 GMC Yukon XL 1500 SLE 4WD.
Powered by the proven 5.3L V8 engine, this truck serves as a primary project vehicle for everything from mechanical overhauls and drivetrain maintenance to functional upgrades and practical repairs.
Below, you’ll find our complete video archive, organized documentation, and sub-pages covering specific repairs, engine work, and ongoing modifications. There is a progression of Yukon XL 1500 4wd videos in order below, beginning with the delivery of this Yukon XL. It came to my residence in Arizona from the state of Washington and is in extremely good shape. There is very little to no rust on the undercarriage and the interior shows little wear. This Yukon XL shows like a vehicle that is only five years old even though at the time of this writing it is 26 years old.
The videos begin with me taking delivery and continues with the second video-a replacement 5.3l engine from back East that I will rebuild partially. This replacement engine has 134000 miles on it so I was able to determine from the vin number of the donor 2000 Yukon that was listed on the delivery manifest. In addition it came with a 3month warranty and as I was removing parts I noticed that I could have just used it as is. I continue with more rebuild videos and eventually move into removing the original Yukon 5.3 engine from the vehicle.
When I get to removing the original engine, I take my time and do a bolt by bolt, part by part extraction. Some videos I show more detail on this 5.3L engine, and the weather only allows a few choice hours to work outdoors-at least I have a concrete slab to lay on and a roof over my head. Eventually I am able to finish the rebuild project and move on to the dismantaling videos and finally to the engine extraction and replacement process.
The Yukon XL 5.3l SLE (Standard Luxury edition) eventually finds itself in a state of installing all the manifolds, wiring harness and more videos. From there I move on to even more videos with the transmission filter and water pump replacements. I finally am able to take it for a test drive after almost a year of work. So enjoy the successes and frustrations in the series of Yukon SLE XL videos that follow below.
